Wow...almost a month since my last post! Crazy how fast this summer has gone. It has been a mix of busy and quiet....of excitement and relaxation. Our trip to Toronto was amazing...not without it's tears and fights (considering we spent so much time together in that van I think that is totally understandable!). What an incredible gift to see the province of Ontario with all it's natural beauty. So different from the drive to Edmonton last summer. It is wonderful to see so much untouched nature. Easy to feel small among all the trees and rocks. For me it was hard not to believe is some sort of higher power (for me it is God) when you see that beauty. Those huge trees and amazing lakes. We saw an eagle our first morning out gliding over our van...wow! We caught a glimpse of a bear on the side of the highway and saw a white tailed deer that first morning too. Toronto was a whole other world. I can see how people get swallowed by a city like that. So many people. Traffic that doesn't stop. It was a privilege to experience a world so different from ours but I think I would have a difficult time adjusting to living there. So many opportunities, which is exciting, but I felt small in a different way...not really a comfortable way.
Now we are home and enjoying the quiet end of August. Some of the school supplies have been purchased, our garden is providing carrots and tomatoes, the pumpkins have taken over the garden, and it is almost time to get organized and face September. I haven't gotten to that point where I can say I am ready....I hope to get there in time! For now I will enjoy some more late nights and sleep-in mornings, some time with friends, crafts and baking with the kids, Tyler's rocket launches, and maybe even finish reading the book I started!
I know we will look on the Summer of 2010 with great smiles and fond memories. We packed in a lot of adventures, weathered some storms, laughed and cried together, almost finished our whole summer to do list and had time to remember how lucky we are to have this family and each other. Life is good....cheers to a wonderful August day....
Wow. You have a beautiful writing style!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by. I honestly can't imagine ever seeing a bear!
Thanks for the positive thoughts and the comment on my blog. The summer DOES go so fast! I hear so many parents say "I can't wait for my kids to go back to school" but I am the opposite because I love hanging out with my boys during the summer.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful sshool year too!
