Some days things just work out. Today as I walked down the driveway after waving to the kids and watched the bus drive away I felt good...sometimes things just work out. I can celebrate my kids and pat myself on the back for being a good parent. Why isn’t it always like that? I guess life can’t always be perfect. What I need to do is remember these moments when things aren’t quite working as perfectly. Sort of like having some savings for the times when we come up short....we can bank some good feelings for later and use them when we need them.
Part of living with intention is knowing what your goals are and remembering that life is a process....things are not going to be perfect all the time, but as long as we continue to try and not give up, we are succeeding and doing the best we can. I will never be done learning how to be a good parent (which is my main life goal), it is a process that I will continue with as my children grow. I will measure my success by the growth, not by reaching some ‘end’. I will celebrate the good and learn from the bad as each day unfolds.
Today’s to do list includes some stuff for work, registering for swimming lessons, making taco salad for supper, planting a few more flowers, and maybe watching an episode of Parenthood. We are getting close to summer....I can’t wait!
Elaine, I found my way here from your comment on my blog and I took some time to read your thoughtful, honest posts. I enjoy your musings on life, children and doing the best you can. I will be checking back!
